Chicken Coop Spray Using Essential Oils
Since spring is almost here, today I wanted to share with you guys a really great remedy that I have for taking care of those pesky knats and flies that love to hang around the chicken coop and that’s my non toxic Chicken Coop Spray!
This recipe uses some common essential oils and a few household items that most people already have on hand. It’s simple and easy to make, and perfect to have on hand while you’re out collecting eggs or feeding.
Chicken Coop Spray
So first gather together your items. You will need:
- 16oz spray bottle (we love these)
- Distilled White Vinegar
- Lemongrass Essential Oil
- Lemon Essential Oil
Then you will simply add these ingredients together. Using 10-15 drops of each essential oil. Shake lightly before each use.
You guys are going to love this stuff! It works great for flies out on the patio too, and there is no better feeling than knowing you aren’t spraying harmful chemicals around your animals or family.
HOW OFTEN CAN I USE THE SPRAY?
As many times as needed. I usually spray once in the morning before it gets too warm outside and then again in the afternoon.
DOES THE SPRAY BOTHER THE CHICKENS?
Nope. Mine don’t even notice when I spray it. However I don’t usually spray it in their nesting boxes since that space tends to stay clean any way.
WHERE CAN I GET THESE OILS?
Many people aren’t aware that when you purchase essential oils from Walmart or the grocery store, that the bottles are mainly made up of synthetic fragrance. (Fragrance is a companies favorite word that allows them to put as many chemicals as they want in something without having to list the harmful ingredients on the bottle…yikes)
So when purchasing essential oils make sure it is from a reputable brand. Our family personally loves Young Living however there are a few other trusted brands out there that are good too.
So if you haven’t joined the essential oil world yet, its not too late! The possibilities are endless with oils, and they have replaced SO many toxic products in my home…including my medicine cabinet.
